Come Home...

This morning was a busy time at the Reach van as many took advantage of the limited, yet important assistance we are able to offer. There were success stories from individuals who told of the jobs that they had recently landed. Of course, there are also a lot of friends that continue to struggle to meet every day needs. Some have prospects of a possible apartment to move into. Some are now sharing a home with friends or family. Others are facing another winter with no home to call their own. In all this, Christ is present and continues to hold out the promise of new life to all...

Today I read a short story from Stories For the Heart entitled "Come Home" (written by Max Lucado). It is a tale about a single mother who reaches out in love to a wayward daughter. The theme of the story is summed up in the final 2 sentences: "Whatever you have done, whatever you have become, it doesn't matter. Please come home." This is the message of God to us through his Son. "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:17) "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:1-3)

He is not the harsh God that some would make him out to be. He is the God who cares less about our past than he does our future, a future that he desires to share with us in his Kingdom.
